My concept of creating a new form of sign post and bringing the outside local culture into the woodland:

Today we took the plates and bottles down to the woods and experimented with laying them in different i did like the effect they had spread out in different trees however i felt i wanted something more intense as my installation so me and Steph who I have been working with, found one tree on the edge of a highly wooded area by a clearing and decorated it with the plates and hung the bottles. The diverse angles and levels of the trees made it the perfect display unit for my work. I feel the result was actually really successful and looked really interesting. It had an enchanted forest feel about it.

My personal favorite plate

Hidden signage, I like how the clean white porcelain stands out against the rough textured brown surface of the tree.

Fly on my cow plate. Interesting way in which the natural environment reacts with the work.

Problems:

Time constraints when creating pottery
Time Constraints in using the kiln to use lazer tran
Creating something for a conceptual purpose rather than just aesthetic design
Problems with using different varnishes on the cheaper inkjet lazer train Peeling off the lazer tran or leaving the plate looking dirty
Problems of underestimating the occupacity of lazer tran on my bottles and there fore ruining the design a bit
I originally wanted to hang my plates in the same way as my bottles but tying string round aplate discretely is difficult

Process:

Lazer tran usually it printed onto using a lazer printer then is dampend and placed in the kiln to fire it then melts onto the surface of the plate. I used an inkjet lazer tran this you print onto with an injet printer wet the paper till the backing comes off and place on the desired object you then wait for the lazer tran to dry and use a oil based varnish or laceur. I used a spray laceur at first but did not liek the weird bumpy finish it left on top of the plate. i decided to by a clear ceramics varnish to paint on. This did not turn out to work as when i varnished it it would peel off the lazer tran. i found an inbetween and used the spray as an initial coat and the varnish to give a smooth texture.

Despite the problems i have found away around them and created something i would consider a definite success!

Final Result:

Using Illustrator I collaborated with two Graphic Design First years Sam Hoh and Stephanie Buck to create plates that would give directions to the outside world from the woods to local restraunts and the built up multi culture area that was in the woods. This became more about decorating the woodlands with objects and work inspired by the urbanised surroundings of the wood lands. These are the ideas for the plates i have created and plan to scatter through the woodlands.

A piece representing Bangkok Cafe, having spent some time in Bangkok my self i was excited to use and create an image of a tuk tuk as they are common and often in Bangkok and i feel it really somes up the mood of the food, people and culture of Bangkok- Fast, Simple and extremely effective.

For my intial research i went into Mamsey's Thai Cafe, The floor in there was purposely tiled to mimic a floor in Marrakech. I felt the style suited the Oranise Morrocon restraint on Hyde park corner more, I have used this as a basic decoration for a plate to decorate the woods and bring the surrounding culture in rather as direction.

This used my photography from Bankok, it entitles the street sellers setting up and the monks going to collect there morning offerings. I thought it summed up the "authentic street style food" of Bangkok Cafe.

I was really found of my fish and chip plate designs, I felt it would be a good idea to extend the idea by using the idea of cows and burgers, Sold by the many pubs and takeaways in the surrounding areas of the woods.
Im really interested in using illustrator to create images and create repetive patterns i think its a nice style.

Whilst creating designs i became more obsessed with defining my concept, I feel that my place is some where that has been urbanised and feel that aswell as directing you out of the forest i could bring the surrounding out side world into the forest by creating decorations for the forest.

These were my intial experiments on Photoshop and Illustrator, This is where i shall be collaborating im working alongside Stephanie buck a first year graphic design student to work on some final more developed and professional designs.

One of the people i am Collaborating with Sam Hoh recomended this link when looking into rebranding something which i am touching apon in this project.
As i am more interested in the colours and words in the signs and shop fronts my real interest is to recreate what they sell in a more aesthetic way.

Brand 10,000 lakes-  Nicole Meyer
My favorite part of this is the ambition behind the project and how she has said "Should only take a little over 27 years to hit 'em all. Stay tuned and enjoy!"

I like the way she has used simple designs to recreate a lake name, I'm really interested in the type layouts and textured back grounds. Its very simple yet effective.
